New Mexico Legal Aid
  • Local United Way-funded New Mexico Legal Aid, purportedly using donation dollars to help poor individuals receive legal assistance, puts its efforts into representing father, a UNM professor (who is neither poor or indigent) in a vicious custody battle to remove a child from a mother. Incidentally, mother's income is low enough to qualify for help. New Mexico Legal Aid turned mother away when she requested assistance. Download brief description in Word. In fact, this organization has stated to many CFJ members that it does not work on custody or divorce cases at all. Why did it help a well-to-do professor with his custody case, particularly when his goal is to greatly restrict the mother-child contact? The NM Legal Aid attorney asked at one point that mother be sanctioned by being thrown in jail. Did your United Way contribution help this cause? We recommend that you contact United Way at (505) 247-3671, identify yourself as a contributor, complain about New Mexico Legal Aid's actions, ask that United Way drop NM Legal Aid as a recipient, and demand an investigation of NM Legal Aid's activities.

Do you have information of concern or have you filed a complaint to an official regarding this organization? CFJ would like to know! Please contact us via email info@family-justice.org class telephone (505) 319-3486, or postal mail at P.O. Box 21996, Albuquerque, NM 87154. Help us root out problem persons in the court system!
