Pro Se Resources

The purpose of the Pro Se section of the web site is to help family court litigants avoid the high cost and risks associated with hiring a family law attorney. Alternatively, for those who do not feel up to the task of self-representation, the resources herein can be used as a way to check for what is appropriate in a case.

A number of our members have concerns based on their past experience in retaining family law attorneys that the litigant's best interests take a back seat to the attorney's goals which sometimes include extending the case to make more money and avoiding at all costs offending or challenging professionals or court officers in the system. Although CFJ has seen many examples of these problems in the system, we are by no means stating that all attorneys are guilty of such behavior or intentions.

The Pro Se resource is intended to provide downloadable versions of common documents to be filled in by the litigant and to provide examples from actual pleadings on the record in our members' cases for review by others in pleading development. CFJ strongly recommends, however, that a litigant does not depend on this resource alone when handling one's own case - the litigant should join CFJ and frequently attend our Pro Se sessions for recent events, trends, and a sounding board of other Pro Se members when determining an individualized case strategy.
